INTRODUCING A PLATFORM FOR LOCAL REPORTING & WHISTLEBLOWING

I want to introduce you to the Revealed Newsletter concept, beginning with the NevadaCountyRevealed.Substack.com, for my hometown: Dedicated to revealing what is hidden and going unreported in the Sierra foothills of Nevada County, California.

Like many of us, you may be tired of corruption and deception in its many forms.

Over the generations, most Americans believed that the “fourth pillar of democracy,” known as media, was generally keeping everything in check. Today, however, we find ourselves grappling with how much our government and media have been obfuscating the truth through coordinated efforts.

While we can’t change this apparatus at the global level per se, we certainly can counter it at the local level.

If you don’t live in Nevada County, CA, and would like to start a “Revealed” newsletter, we suggest you create something similar in your area.

You can do the same in your area simply by adding a “Revealed” (such as #OaklandRevealed, or #SanDiegoRevealed) at the end of your community’s Substack name/hashtag, and we can cross-promote, share, and recommend your substack. You can bring on contributors for a one-time share or regular contributors. Don’t go it alone. The more contributors, the better.

WHY NevadaCountyRevealed?

Let’s answer that with some questions.

• Are you having issues that are not being addressed in your local media?

• Do you have information that needs to go public, and there is no open and solid platform to be heard?

• Are your cries for help being ignored by the government or media?

• Have you been censored, banned, or deleted on other platforms?

• Do you believe your local media is failing to cover what truly matters?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions or know somebody who could, then you know why we are launching NevadaCountyRevealed and suggesting you do the same.

By sharing fact-filled articles, citizen-sleuthing results, forensic audits, and more, we will be able to ensure quality representation and leadership.

Why Substack.com?

Because there is a “middleman” between what is and what isn’t. What is true and what is not.

Because Big Media has been consolidated into just a few hands.

Because there is a severe need to “fill the void” in investigative journalism.

Because propaganda and collusion have gone unchecked.

Because transparency in government (and its agencies) and business is dead.

Because….

In 2020, The New Republic said there was an absence of local news newsletters, especially in contrast to the large number of national-level political newsletters.

The landscape of journalism has drastically changed over the years, and not for the better. There has been a growing stranglehold on platforms for writers, citizens, bloggers, and journalists, giving them little room to adjust their sails according to the changes.

As of late 2020, large numbers of journalists and reporters were coming to the (substack) platform, driven in part by the long-term decline in traditional media (there were half as many newsroom jobs in 2019 as in 2004)….. Substack users range from journalists to experts to large media sites. Among the high-profile writers to have used the platform are Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalist and author Glenn Greenwald, culture critic Anne Helen Petersen, music essayist Robert Christgau, and food writer Alison Roman.

NevadaCountyRevealed is part of this movement….. we are picking up where good journalism and honest government left off.

We have much to share about our local government and media outlets that, most likely like yours, ignore the critical stories and twist the headlines to cover up the real criminal activity.

NevadaCountyReveal is changing that.

We are not doing this alone. This newsletter requires local citizens to share and provide content. This newsletter will only be as successful as its citizen’s engagement.

Don’t want to be an official contributor? Your comments in response to our substack publications will be equally as valuable. In your comments, you can share additional information, links, resources, perspectives, etc., assisting in shining a light where little currently exists.
