Interesting Reinette but millions of us live in condos and high rise apartment buildings in cities across California. Balcony gardens are not able to produce enough produce to keep a gerbil alive..

Dennis, very true. But this is not simply food production that I am speaking to. No community garden is going to produce enough food. Creating a community garden in a very public place allows community members to get to know one another..... having a strong community network is a key to one's well-being during a time of crisis or difficulty.

Depending on your city, there is usually a vacant lot somewhere that can be organized into a community garden. Detroit is pretty well known for this, and many, many other cities worldwide.

Exactly... organizer your neighborhoods now. Get to know your neighbors. Have round table discussions about Plans A, B, and C! Learn what skills you have, where you can grow food, and how to watch out for each other in your neighborhoods!
