I remember visiting the Statue of Liberty three times. The first was in the late 60s with my older sister. I remember being told by a guide that the torch was under construction and no one could go up the staircase—it was cordoned off with caution tape—I remember looking up and seeing a few steps. We did go to the crown and look out on the harbor. As this article mentions; that memory would be an impossibility because after 50 plus years there would have been more than barricade/caution tape blocking that ascent. The way out of this mess:
1. Create an easy system for real money: private currencies/warrants based on real assets, goods, services, etc. (gold, corn, oil, distance/volume/weight transportation, labor human hour/minute, etc.)
2. Ban legal tender. Let the free markets decide which real-currencies/valuables/warrants they prefer to trade with
3. Ban paper-backed currencies (unlike real-backed ones of point 1.)
4. Enforce a Legal Banking Reserve of 100% of deposits (so banks don't create money based on air) and therefore there's no excuse for a Central Bank, because there would be no risk of bank-runs since all their loans are fully backed with deposits

Few know about the July, 1916 attack on the US by the Germans that weakened the arm/torch of the statue. It is called the Black Tom Explosion and it did a lot of damage; it was a huge explosion. 9/11 was not the first attack on the US proper.
I remember visiting the Statue of Liberty three times. The first was in the late 60s with my older sister. I remember being told by a guide that the torch was under construction and no one could go up the staircase—it was cordoned off with caution tape—I remember looking up and seeing a few steps. We did go to the crown and look out on the harbor. As this article mentions; that memory would be an impossibility because after 50 plus years there would have been more than barricade/caution tape blocking that ascent. The fellow mentioned in this article says many people say they remember going to the torch, but they would have had to have had that experience a year or more before the 1916 incident. I couldn’t ask my sister her memory of our tour because I found out about that part of the history after she had passed.

Yes, that first JCPenney’s is still there and is in its original. It’s got that pulley that goes from the upstairs down to the cashier where they used to send the bills up on a little line. Kind of cool. My daughter graduated from high school there. I think 63 in her class. Nothing better than a small school. She was on the varsity golf team, the lead in the school play, she played basketball, in student council! I did not know your grandmother. I wasn’t there long enough to know everybody. But it was a good time and I’m glad I lived there and taught there.
